香港衛生署於2006年4月進行了一項大型的「行為風險因素調查」,共訪問了2,000多名年齡介乎18-64歲的人士。調查顯示:
.17.6%受訪者屬於超重,而肥胖的則有23.4%
.男性(51.4%)比女性(32.1%)較多屬超重及肥胖
.45-54歲年齡組別的人士有最高的超重及肥胖比率(57.5%)
.飲食不健康 - 每人每日只吃分別一至兩份水果及蔬菜
.運動量不足 - 逾50%受訪者於調查前一星期沒有進行任何最少十分鐘的中度劇烈運動
雖然近年大家都開始注意到均衡飲食的重要,令身型方面較從前纖瘦,但是香港人和其他亞洲已發展國家的人一樣,已習慣了在日常生活各方面都依賴機器和科技的幫助,令身體的勞動機會大減。缺乏運動是亞洲人體重增加、超重和癡肥人口激增的主要原因之一。專家指在每周大部分日子進行最少30分鐘中度劇烈程度的體能活動已能夠促進健康。除了連續進行半小時運動外,也可以將30分鐘運動時間分成3節,每節10分鐘來運動。
The Department of Health conducted a Behavioural RiskFactor Survey in April 2006. More than 2,000 of the population aged 18-64 were sampled. Result shows that:
.17.6% are classified as overweight, 23.4% are classified as obese
.A higher proportion of males(51.4%) than females(32.1%) were classified as overweight and obese
.People aged 45-54 had a highest rate(57.5%) of overweight and obese
.Unhealthy diet - The average number of fruits and vegetables eaten per day is between 1 and 2 portions
.Inadequate physical activity - Over 50% had not done any moderate physical activity for a least 10 minutes at a time during the week before enumeration
Modern people are now aware of the importance of balanced diet. However, like most Asian developed countries, Hong Kong people are used to rely on modern technology in daily life, which results in a decreased chance for physical activity. Lack of physical activity is one of the main reasons leading to increase weight, overweight and obesity. Experts advised that 30 minutes of physical activity of moderate intensity on most days of week is good enough to provide health benefits and maintain good health. You may not need to do it in one single session but divide the 30-minute physical activity time into three 10-minute sessions.
